ABOUT Cal kowal

Cal Kowal

born in Chicago in 1944 educated at University of Illinois-Chicago Illinois Institute of technology-Institute of Design-studied with Aaron Siskind/Arthur Siegel. Conscientious Objector To War-medical photographer-1969-71 Professor of Fine Art , Art Academy of Cincinnati(CAM), retired in 2002. Two fellowships in Visual Arts, Ohio Arts council. Visiting artist: School of Art Institute of Chicago, Light Work Gallery, Syracuse University ,NKU, Ohio State University. National exhibition record, curating, and related photographic projects. Kodak Fellowship winner for Santa Fe Workshops 2 --person exhibition at CAM, Weston Gallery, Ohio Wesleyan University, Carl Solway Gallery. In permeant collections, Norton Simon Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Photography-Chicago, Museum of Modern Art, George Eastman House, Cincinnati Art Museum, Ghetty Archives, University of Ky Art Museum, Photographic Archives-University of Louisville, published : A Book Full of Spoons, T-Shirts are Tacky, This Space Reserved, Be More, and soon to be published Residuum, retired (still producing) in Alexandria, Ky. in a studio he built with wife/artist, Anita Douthat.
